The first things Yoongi saw when he cracked his eye were the gutted candles. Hoseok had lit them just as they’d tumbled into bed. The candles had been a set of short, fat wax cylinders in red and green encircled with thick gold-trimmed ribbon tied in bows.
In their lusty distraction and subsequent exhaustion, Yoongi and Hoseok had both forgotten to blow the candles out before going to sleep, and now the set were stubs of their former selves. In the dim light of very early morning, Yoongi could not tell which were red and which were green.
Yoongi didn’t know where Hoseok had gotten the candles, but he knew Hoseok thought they were pretty, and that’s all that mattered.
The candlelight had, Yoongi admitted, been nice. Extra, unnecessary, but nice.
Make-up sex was its own special holiday blend, wasn’t it? thought Yoongi with a smirk.
The drama of the Christmas gifts was over. A combination of carelessness and cluelessness on the part of Namjoon had accidently led to misunderstanding and strained relations between Yoongi and Hoseok; each had been led to buy a Christmas gift for the other, despite the original mutually-agreed-upon ‘no gifts’ policy, and then they both suffered anxiety, confusion, and jealous when they learned the original gift hadn’t been for them at all.
It turned out to be for Min Holly from Seokjin, of all people.
Ridiculous.
Yoongi was very glad it was all cleared up.
He’d called Namjoon to scold him and used the other’s guilt about the drama he’d caused to get him to come to Yoongi’s place and dogsit Holly while Yoongi went to Hoseok’s to have make-up sex.
Nice, candlelit make-up sex.
On his way over, Yoongi had worn the coat Hoseok had given him for Christmas, and he suspected, whenever they decided to get out of bed, he’d be treated to inaugural waffles from the waffle maker he’d gifted Hoseok. But that was a long time from now. They didn’t have schedule until two.
They could take their time.
Hoseok was sprawled out on his stomach, his bare back tempting Yoongi’s fingers. He wanted to steal a touch.
But, no, Yoongi wouldn’t risk disturbing him. He would let Hoseok sleep.
Then Yoongi remembered something. He slipped out of bed and went to his coat pocket and crept back to bed.
In his hand, he carried a thin chain.
It was a piece from the jewelers whose bag Namjoon had used for Seokjin’s homemade dog biscuits.
It was simple but well made. Elegant and understated.
When Hoseok shifted toward Yoongi, Yoongi carefully put the chain round Hoseok’s neck and fixed
the clasp. Then he indulged himself and smoothed his hand down Hoseok’s bare back. It was one single caress, but Hoseok hummed and wriggled closer.
“Okay?” The word was thick with sleep and made a small puff of breath Yoongi felt against his skin.
“Okay,” answered Yoongi.
And then they were snuggling, limbs tangled, not even kissing, just nuzzling and rubbing and readjusting and sighing and dozing off again in each other’s arms.
Yoongi’s last thought before he felt back to sleep was one of mild surprise as they usually both liked their space, but not tonight…apparently…
---
Hoseok startled then squealed when he caught his reflection in the chrome of the wafflemaker.
“Min Yoongi!” he cried, touching the chain on his neck, then he shot Yoongi a look of mock effrontery. “We said ‘no gifts.’ And you’ve given me two!”
“I’ll take it back,” teased Yoongi, “and the wafflemaker.”
“You’ll do neither,” huffed Hoseok, studying himself and grinning. “Happy Christmas to me.”
